Gunsan’s Culinary Gems: From Lee Sung Dang to Ozone Bakery

Embark with us on a delectable journey through Gunsan’s gourmet orbit, featuring the city’s fabled eateries selling everything from traditional breads to peppy pastries.

Lee Sung Dang (이성당)

The grand spectacle of Lee Sung Dang, arguably the reason most people plan a trip to Gunsan, cannot be overstated. Known for operating since 1945, this famed bakery serves up mouth-watering sweet red bean bread, its thin outer layer contrasting beautifully with the generous fill of bean paste. Here, most breads are doughed with rice flour, offering a unique chewy texture. Vegetable Bread, another fan-favorite, bursts with assorted veggies akin to a veggie dumpling. Don’t miss the bustling new wing with breads of modern-style next to the main branch – you’ll find it a real joy of culinary discovery.

Jirinseong (지린성)

No food tour through Gunsan is complete without a stop at Jirinseong. This place has made an appearance on Baek Jong-won’s ‘Three Great Kings’, securing its place as a popular spot in Gunsan’s food scene. Unlike others, this Chinese restaurant offers a straightforward menu – Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodles). Try their signature dishes, ‘Chili Jjajang’ and ‘Chili Jjamppong’, but be warned these are a symphony of fiery flavors, not meant for the faint-hearted.
